One (digital) place your medical docs can call home

The idea for this project came up at a family dinner where my brother, who had been diagnosed with a chronic disease a few years ago, shared with me his frustration about the time he usually spends whenever he needs to find a specific document related to his medical condition.

It was crazy to hear that in 2021 he still needs to carry all of his medical records to each and every appointment with the doctor. Just the thought of him sitting in front of the doctor searching for a document among his physical files, on his email, and on the HMO app, simultaneously, made me understand this is going to be my next challenge.

To solve this problem, I must first understand its extent, study it thoroughly, and come up with the best possible solution.

1. USERS & MARKET RESEARCH

Six people, ages 32 to 69

Competitors - who are engaged in medical information management and the creation of digital medical records.

Parallel markets - for medical monitoring, chronic disease management, managing patient communities and patient forums, and document management and storage services.

2. CHALLENGES & INSIGHTS

A lost medical document can be hard to retrieve

Let users know their data is fully backed up, and make the registration process short but secure. To keep all the documents and information organized, divide all medical files into main categories, which will form the main categories for the app by default.

When time is limited, finding the right medical document can be really frustrating

The ability to search over different platforms for a specific document is a major challenge for users. Filtering documents by year, doctor name, and searching for specific documents using keywords are a must

Long term tasks are hard to remember

In combination with daily routine activities, tasks relating to user’s condition tend to fall between chairs. Therefore, they should be notified when prescriptions are about to expire and reminded to take care of payment vouchers beforehand.

Important things that are said at a doctor's appointment are often forgotten

offer the option to record doctor's meetings and share them when needed so users can focus on asking the right questions and listening to the doctor rather than trying to remember everything he says.

Users can record a doctors meeting to hear it again or share it’s transcript with relatives

3. VISUAL IDENTITY

Simple, personal, accountable and yet not too serious

Strategy first

As I interviewed people, narrowed my target audience, identified their pain points, and engaged in competitor research, I was able to develop a vision for my new app. The keywords: simple, personal, accountable and yet not too serious.

Brand identity

In terms of design, I wanted an elegant and clean look combined with vibrant and modern colors, which would make it stand out from similar apps.
To balance things out, I used a Serif font for the logo and the main headlines and a Sans Serif font for the body text.

Choosing a name

The name needed to reflect the product's main goal - to simplify the process of finding and retrieving medical information for users.

I designed Alfred as a tribute to Alfred from the Batman series- someone you can count on, someone you trust with your most private information, someone whose goal is to make your life easier.
